The Two Fatalities Revealed in the Ivy League School Incident as Law Enforcement Continue Hunt for Gunman.

Two students who were killed in Saturday’s mass shooting on the university campus were being remembered Monday – amid a widespread hunt for their killer continued following the discharge by local law enforcement of the single suspect questioned in the case.

Honoring a Lost Student

Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was remembered as “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, according to the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which offered condolences for her at a service on Sunday.

Cook was vice-president of Brown’s chapter of the College Republicans organization, as the club stated. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also posted sympathies on social media, saying in part: “There are no words. Keeping in mind her family and friends, especially her parents.”

An International Student

The other person killed was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an Uzbek national in his first year of studies at the Ivy League university, family members said.

Umurzokov’s identity was confirmed by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. He had big dreams of becoming a neurosurgeon and assisting patients,” his sibling Samira said in a memorial statement.

The Shooting Incident

Nine other people were injured in the violent event in the engineering department of Brown’s university in Providence, during the school’s final exam period.

Officials stated by the end of Sunday that a 24-year-old male arrested in a raid at a hotel about approximately 17 miles from the campus earlier in the day was set to be freed.

“There is a killer at large,” said the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

He continued, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you have to regroup and pursue a different angle, and this is precisely what occurred over the last approximately one day.”

Ongoing Concerns

The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, noted: “We know that this is likely to cause fresh anxiety for our public”.

The shooter discharged a weapon inside a room in the building on Saturday, firing more than 40 rounds from a 9mm handgun, a law enforcement official reported to the Associated Press.

Police that searched the inn found a pair of pistols and two loaded 30-round magazines when the suspect was arrested, the news agency reported.

Condition of the Injured

Among those wounded, one pupil was released from the hospital, said the university president, Christina Paxson. Seven others were in serious yet stable state, and one was in critical condition, police said on Sunday.

An educational institution, a private K-12 school in Durham, North Carolina, said a former student, Kendall Turner, was in the group of seriously hurt victims.

Further Tributes

Cook was honored at a religious service in Birmingham on Sunday. A pastor commented, “She was an incredible, grounded, faithful bright light not only here growing up... but at the university she was a shining example in that institution as well.”

A group leader, Martin Bertao, shared a message from the club. “Ella was known for her bold, brave, and kind heart as she worked for her branch and peers,” he said.

The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “deeply saddened” by Umurzokov’s death in a message. “We offer our heartfelt sympathies to the Umurzokov family, loved ones, and fellow students and mourn the loss of his bright future.”

The weekend's murders at Brown, the nation’s seventh-oldest college with about over seven thousand undergraduate and 3,000 graduate students, happened during one of at least 392 shooting incidents recorded nationally so far in this year, according to statistics. Monday was the 349th day of the year.
