It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the toys.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
